Spike TV's 2005 Video Game Awards

Yes, that fateful evening on Saturday, December 10, 2005, was graced by an award show that involved what many of us consider to be life (at least I do), VIDEO GAMES. While it isn't the first, it still is a video game award show. I want to share with you some of the categories (not all, can't remember them all). "Best Action Game" went to God of War, "Pontiac's Best Driving Game Award" went to Burnout Revenge (over Gran Turismo 4; I was pleasantly surprised), "Best Military Game" went to Call of Duty 2, and "Best Individual Sports Game" went to Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. And my favorite award, and most important of all, was "Game of the Year". Now what games could obtain such an honor. Maybe Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory or Battlefield 2. Sadly, these games didn't grace the nominees list. They were God of War, World of Warcraft, F.E.A.R, Call of Duty 2, and Resident Evil 4. A pretty solid list. But in the end, who can beat crazed villagers with chainsaws trying to chop your head off. Yeah, "Game of the Year" is Resident Evil 4. It's good to see it get the recognition it deserves. It also got "Best Graphics". Hard to believe it beat Call of Duty 2. If you want to see the other awards, click on nominees at SpikeTV.com. It's a beautiful day for Capcom.

  • Thanks Austin. Yeah, I watched the video game awards, too. But I thought that video games were for geeks?

  • Y'all know that's one of the least dependable sources for game knowledge. SpikeTV is a somewhat seedy network. I wouldn't be at surprised if said award show was rigged. Also, a lot of companies probably paid to get their games on the list. You'll notice that 8 or 9 games seem to comprise multiple categories.
