Halo Map

Hey, I'm going to try and show you all what I meant when I said I can take something thats the best and make it better. I have been working on 3D modeling a halo map. The Halo maps are the things that are the best. I have modeled a pretty good map that Matt and I are getting ready to take it through the process of being set up in a real time game of Halo for the computer. So far we are doing pretty good and are almost done besides the few porblems we have been having, but its getting there and it will be awesome once it is done. Tell what you think.

  • Cool and welcome Gerk.

Are you guys putting that into Halo Custom Edition?

Edgeworks, the makers of "The Codex", is making a new series called "The Heretic". Looks like we have more competition.

  • Yeh,

Me and Matt were planning on setting it up in Halo CE. It will be awesome and we will send it to you all.

But if there is competition, we will pwn it as long as we can. Hopefully forever.

  • We need more advertising in the Halo community.

  • i would say it would be in the best intrest of us to find a way to advertise this, if we can get it to work, but thats not so easy.

  • Does the fan spin?

  • We are hoping for the fan to spin, but we are not sure if we will be able to get it to work. If you have any other ideas, feel free to tell me and maybe I will incorporate them into my design.

  • Welcome to The Wahttehhog, Greg.

Yeah Austin, I heard about the "Heretic" machinima series. I don't think it's going to be as good as the original Codex. At least we'll be able to keep up.

What Greg and I are doing is modeling the maps in Autodesk Inventor, and then porting it over to 3ds Max for continued vertex modeling and creating terrain and skyboxes and reference frames and stuff. Greg and I have actually completely exported and played a few basic maps that we modeled entirely in 3ds Max for testing purposes. Currently, while Greg is working on this map, I'm working on another map, similar in construction, yet very much different in gameplay. I've actually already ported my map into 3ds Max and have tesselated the entire bottom surface for a garden environment I am texturing. I'll post a few renders of this map sometime. Once Gerk and I finish both of these maps, we'll upload them here on this blog excusively for Wahttehhog members to download and beta-test (yes, in a real game among us all) before Gerk and I release the maps to the public.

As you can already see from the renders of Greg's map, we haven't even textured the map yet, and the renders already look beautiful.

(Note to Greg: I think I've figured out what the problem was with all those errors that were occurring when we transfered the map into 3ds Max. Also, I've handled some exceptions that were occuring with the shaders' values we were having trouble with in tool.exe, so it's much easier to work with now. I'll show you this stuff at the next LAN.)

  • Thanks for clearing up the idea of what we are doing for everyone Matt. It is truly mazing we have been able to complete what we have and I can't wait to get this map into the game. Hopefully at the next lan the map will be done. Me and Matt are hoping to keep you guys updated on our map through blog posts.
