Wahttehhog XBL Division

The purpose of the Wahttehhog XBL Division is to move the clan into the Xbox Live community. I'm hoping to use it to film on Xbox Live. I'll get some regular members to come in and help with filming. I would film small machinimas, nothing to do with the Sans-culottes series. Also, it is for publicity. More publicity equals more viewers.

I would use something Clay found on our computer called Windows Movie Maker for editing. This was free on our computer and that's why I would use it. Clay made a video and I am making one as well. These are just tests so don't expect much. Sign on to Skype and I will send it to you when I am finished. You guys can see how it is. However, it saves in Windows Media format. I may need help converting it if it is necessary.

  • Man, nice initiative. I have Windows Movie Maker as well. Maybe I'll try something.

  • Matt, I am looking at external hard drives because my computer has 523,756 KB of physical memory left. I don't take up too much of the memory since this is a family computer. I'm just looking because chances are I wouldn't be able to afford it. So what should I be looking at? How much memory does yours have?

  • Also, how much do the, let's say, 150 Gigabytes drives cost in terms of LaCies?

  • More than you'd want to spend. Matt should just lend you one of his extras.

  • Dude you don't want to buy an external hard drive if your on a budget because it'll cost you up to $100 dollars more than if you just build an equivalent one.

Say you were going to buy a 160GB LaCie external drive, it'll cost you about $120. That's a fair amount.

But if you build an external, all you need to buy is a 300GB drive for $100 and a case for something around $20.

So for the same amount of money, you can have almost 2X as much storage.

    .....

Also, I recommend using Pinnacle Studio v.9 instead of Windows Movie Maker mainly because anything made by Microsoft sucks. This is a rule of thumb. If you're shooting for a professional non-linear editing suite, use Avid Express (which is very similar to Final Cut Pro, and I happen to have plenty of experience with the software). But that costs $30,000. I could hook you up though with a copy of the suite if you want. You'd have to learn the software.

Or you could purchase a beautiful PowerMac G5 today and pwn n00bs "all liek hard and stuff moby-bir..."

    .....

Speaking of filming over XBL. How are you going to record the action, and of what quality are we expecting the video to be? Do you have a tuner or are you going to use a VCR?

  • Just hooked up some amazing speakers to my computer and the sound is amazing. Can't wait to play CS: Source with them.

  • In response to what Matt said, I just looked at Pinnacle Studio v.9 and Avid Xpress (yes, that is correct). I see no difference between Pinnacle and Movie Maker, but Avid definitely looks way more 1337xxor. I took a look at the Avid Xpress tour, but unfortunately I couldn't understand what they were talking about (they were speaking too technically for me to understand).

  • Right you are Clay. Pinnacle Studio operates very much like the way Windows Movie Maker does, but it is much more stable (and it's not made by Microsoft).

  • I hope you aren't too angry at me, Clay. We were only joking. The message you sent me was hilarious.

  • I was a all lol jk, Pete(but I was pretty angry. I'm better now though).

  • I'm so glad I have Xbox Live. I was playing Halo 2 up until 3 AM this morning. I made 15 friends last night/this morning. I almost didn't get Xbox Live, I'm so glad I did.
